As somebody who regularly writes
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
, and as an inveterate old-school typist, I have noticed that, any time I double-space after a period, Kinja has begun to remove one of the spaces automatically. Thanks, Kinja?

Saving you from the humiliation of being older than 13 and on the Internet?

I guess so. I know that modern typing styles have embraced the single space after a period, but I learned to type on an old IBM selectric back in the early ‘80s. Damn you kids and your new fangled ideas!

I’ve mostly grown out of the double-space, but I, too, used to use it at the end of sentences for the same reason (except substitute “90s” for “80s”). Yes, we had a computer. No, it wasn’t what I learned typing on.

I’ve never used a typewriter and still learned to double space!
I remember having a teacher in grade school who would take off points if you didn’t, but that was 15 years ago.

Let’s go have a beer. Bring your laptop, and we’ll type.

I hear you. I grew up double-spacing, but single is the way to go now. I work on a variety of research publications at work and I still have trouble with muscle memory overpowering my brain.

I think it just looks better. I know we’re saving ones and zeroes, though. And I guess those can add up in a place like Gawker.

I did that regularly when I was in college, you’ve just got to make sure your work gets done in less than two hours or so...

I’ve never heard of anyone double spacing after a full stop , but some people were taught to put a single space before a comma and it looks as odd as it does just above I guess the double space after follows.

Single space after a comma, double space after a period (full stop), single space after a semicolon, double space after a colon. All old-fashioned rules by today’s standards. I think it makes for easier reading.

Yeah, all those extra spaces really can add up.

At work I have to use an email client that automatically capitalizes words at the beginning of new lines, so that if I don’t want a capital letter there I have to back-space and fix it. It also criticizes my spelling. It makes me furious. Now here I am watching this stupid thing editing my typing, like it knows what I want to type better than I do. Fuck that fucking shit you stupid heap of ones and zeroes, you God damn servo-mechanism, fuck that and fuck you!

Similar to the way Word thinks it knows better than you what you want to do. Auto-formatting can GTFAC.
